Okay I'm into watches again. Post your favorite models

I picked up a used watch yesterday, a G-Shock GW-5000.

The G-Shock 'square' is iconic, and though I have a few versions, this one is particularly cool. It looks essentially the same as the 5610, with features like world time, solar battery charging, daily atomic clock sync, etc.

The key difference with the GW-5000 is that it has a stainless case and lugs, a screw down case back, and a high quality soft rubber strap, It has a little more heft and quality feel compared to the standard models.

You can see the differences in the second pic.

The reason I never bought one - It sells for $325. I found this one on FB marketplace, listed by a local pawn guy. He obviously didn't know or care anything about these watches. It's a little worn and was missing a small screw on the bezel, so I was able to pick it up for $25. I ordered a new resin bezel and a band, and it should last the rest of my life.

Man, G Shock models are all over the map. I'm still amazed by what some of them retail for. I finally scored one in the form of the Casioak from another member here. I have to say that it feels like a plastic toy every time I pick it up. But at the same time I find myself picking it up more than my other watches lately. I probably said it before but this Casio is like the Crocs or those ugly ass Hey Dude shoes that everyone seems to love these days. And I think I know why now. It's just easy. No thinking involved. In fact I think this year I will score a few more of the basic G Shock models for the go bags. I mean how can you go wrong there?

Yeah, they won't win any fashion contests... But they are just really good watches... Set it, forget it, beat the hell out of it and never worry about it...

Yeah I had my Casioak on all day today for these same reasons you just gave.

Moving right along...I probably mentioned this one before but it's been awhile and I started looking at them again last night on eBay and Jomashop. This watch is definitely a love hate thing with nobody really on the fence about it. I'm referring to the Hamilton Ventura . It was the first battery powered watch way back when. There's more than a few pics of Elvis wearing a larger model. I really dig it. The smaller model might actually be too small but it has a cleaner more streamlined look than the larger model.
I showed the pics to my wife last night and she just said " You like THAT?!" And I said I did. In fact it's kinda like the watch version of the old Studebaker Avanti and the later Avanti 2. Lots of folks think those are hideous cars but I think they're cool as ****.
Anyway I can get one for around $600.00 which ain't terrible but not great for a quartz watch. They have automatic models but that doesn't really make sense considering the history of what this watch is/was. I do want one but for the same money I could score a nice Tissot Seastar that would scratch my Oris Aquis itch.

They are cool in a weird funky way, and they have heritage...

And I love the Avanti. My dad had a 63 and a 64, both R2 models with the Paxton supercharged 289 V8... He more recently had an Avanti II convertible before he got into Corvettes. I want to say that he's had easily 60 Studebakers over the years... The car he and my mom got married in, was a fully restored 1928 Studebaker President that his childhood friend owned.

Dude, anyone who's into Studes is a glutton for punishment. I mean I get the appeal but it's like going out of your way to slam your dick in the screen door. I love old cars but I'm not into the muscle car scene. I'd much rather have an old Falcon,Comet, Valient , Corvair or better yet most any year Rambler. And BTW...those Avantis were cooler than ANY Corvette except for MAYBE a 63 Split Window with side pipes.
I think I dig the Ventura for the same reason I dig the retro looking Bulova Sinatra models. They're classy and understated. You know how so many watches these days can get ridiculously Invicta huge and gawdy. I'm out on all that. My only issue is that the Ventura as well as the Sinatra collection are dress watches which I wouldn't really have many occasions to wear.
