Okay I'm into watches again. Post your favorite models

A throwback now my sons have the the SS/Gold Sub, the other has the Datejust. Leaves me my SS sub and the Two tone Datejust.. The wifey has a new two tone Datejust blue face as well as the black Two tone…

Got my eye on an all Gold Sub blue face… too hard to write that check…

I like having a combination of some of the popular and iconic models, as well as having some models that are more obscure. They can be more expensive, or they can be cheap, so long as they are interesting and have something cool about them. There are watch geeks, and there are watch snobs. I think it's safe to say that folks like you and I and the others here, are the former, rather than the latter.
Yeah I have always been attracted to what everyone else doesn't have. My first car was a 76 Audi Fox. So I'm a weirdo from WAY back. And yeah I dig different watches. What I don't like is blatant homage watches. I don't want anything that looks like a Submariner or a Daytona. Not a fan for chronographs anyway .
I prefer models with their own unique look like the Oris Aquis or the Ventura. I think I'm on record as wanting a Tag Monaco real bad . But again it has it's own look and following. There's plenty of watch snobs that hate on Tag Heuer every day but they have to respect the Monaco.
So I guess I ain't a Chevy guy or Mopar guy and probably not even a Ford guy .

Yeah, I pretty much got rid of my homages... But there are plenty of watches that clearly borrow some of the vibe from popular models... Some call it copying, but in truth, a lot of watches look similar because they were designed in the same era, based on what was popular, etc... The AP Royal Oak is iconic and copied a lot... People see the Baume et Mercier Riviera and think it copied the Royal Oak. But in truth they were designed at the same time and were competing with each other, and both companies developed a similar product at the same time... AP simply got theirs to market a few months before the other, which came out in 1973... Both are iconic, but the AP gets all the fame and glory. For that reason, and because of price, I plan to get the Riviera... Its around $4500 and has its own rich history...

Same Italian guy named Genta I believe designed the Royal Oak and the Nautilus for PP . You can tell that by looking at both of them side by side. I dig the Royal Oak way more than any Rolex. But the Nautilus just does nothing for me. It's not ugly by any means. It's just kinda plain and uninspired to me.

Oh I've got a few friends that are investors and pilots etc that have single watches that are $750K & up.. I just know what I have in my small collection so far and I'm definitely going to try and trade one in for a AP Royal Oak.. I've been wanting one of those since I saw one on my friends wrist! 😂 I asked he told and I was shocked 😂 I love the way they look, function and not to mention everyone knows an AP when they see it

You’d be surprised how many people have no idea what an AP is. Usually only watch enthusiast can really only catch them out and about.

All my clients say the same, no one ever notices their stainless Royal Oak but slap a Rolex on and everyone ooo’s and ahhh’s lol.

And that is kinda why I didn't save up for a Rolex, and went with a more obscure brand with my Cuervo y Sobrinos. Well, and the Cuervo was only $5k instead of double or triple that... lol

But in the end, everyone sees the Rolex and all that really says about you is that you can afford a Rolex, and want people to KNOW that you got a Rolex...

I felt like there are brands out there that make a fantastic piece, have a rich heritage and story to tell, and because it's not well known, people who are into watches will ask about it and strike up a conversation about it. What is there to discuss about a Rolex, you know? It's such a known thing, that there isn't much to say about it...
