If it's stored properly it'll keep. I had some 4831 go bad on me. It was in my hot garage for a long time after bringing it out of several years of storage. After blowing a primer in what is normally a standard pressure 25-06 that I had loaded a couple of months earlier. I pulled a couple of bullets. The powder weight was dead on, but it looked odd. I smelled of it and it had started turning. I didn't notice any signs of it going bad at the time I loaded them. When in doubt I throw it out. I don't keep any powder long term in my garage storage now. I keep all my long term stores in my house. I move a pound at a time out there.
