Older Ruger Mini 14

I have a chance to get and older Ruger Mini 14 ( 183 prefix) serial number for a decent price. (I ve always wanted one). I have heard that accuracy can be a problem with these older rifles as the barrel heats up. The rifle I am considering is scoped , and was used as a farm rifle with no history of bad accuracy. It comes with a 5 rd and I think a 10 rd magazine. Any opinions or experience with this rifle would be appreciated.

Maybe I need to rephrase. Does anyone have any experience or opinions, either positive or negative about an older Ruger Mini 14?

No experience with the older fourteens but I have a older 30 that does work.

Get it while you can. Any "barrel heat" issues won't show up unless you're mag dumping, and normal, regular hobby use won't see you doing that much if ever.

If you're not happy w/the accuracy you can add an accu-strut. I think they're supposed to help.

Shoot, I'd add one just for the looks - makes it look like an M14.

I bought one in 1981 tried everything could never get a decent group out of it tried a scope ever took it to a good gunsmith he told me to get rid of it so I did. Fast forward 30 years bought a mini thirty love it good groups with steel case ammo I think the mini 14 I had was just a bad gun. Can happen to the best of them. If the price is good I would say buy it

The accu strut does help and they make the gun look awesome

That accu strut is a good idea. I haven't kept up with that info. I've always liked the look of those rifles.
