Opinions needed. Found my new toy

If you wanna stay with 556 and just want something to sling lead, I recommend a kel tec su16. Its a very under rated gun, and you already have the mags! Ib my experience, they are good for me out to 200 yards. Though, I have seen people push it out further with the su16

Thats a good candidate. I was looking on line and I noted an a b c models. What's the difference? Also I have never seen one in person, please do not be offended by this, but the gun looks plastic in nature. How sturdy is the "feel" of the firearm?

The only difference between all of the models is the stock. The gun is built on a polymer reciever, and is therefore pretty light, but that being said doesn't feel to plasticity. Well, except for the forarm... that just feels tacky, but luckily, kel tec makes a drop in quad rail replacment.

I have 2 Mini's and love them. I have one that is stock and one tricked out. I have not had the mag problems some one else mentioned. The only problem I have with the stock model is my long arms. Me and carbines don't do well together. Put an adjustable stock on the other and it is great.

So many guns so little time and money.
I always wanted to try a mini too.

Maybe try a ak74 in 5.56? Since you say you have ars, a saiga would be very easy in the price range for a range toy.

Ok, I received a bonus from work and have 600 bucks burning a hole in my pocket. Considering a mini 14 just to goof around with. I know I may have to kick in a little more jack for a nice one, but just wanted some opinions from those who have experience with this type rifle. Will also take suggestions for other rifles in that price range. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all.
The mini-14 is a nice rifle if you prefer the M1C look over an AR. But right now you can get an AR or AK at that price.

I found my mini to be very front heavy and with a bad left shoulder,it was not that fun to shoot..ars are lighter and easier to customize with many parts available......lever actions are also a lot of fun.....merry Christmas

piston driven with folding stock, well reviewed, hard to find
a: 18" bbl
b: 18" thin bbl
ca: 16" bbl
c: 16" bbl, will fire with stock folded, the skeletonized stock is a little shaky

Well there's always the lever gun! It's just such a complete and practical quick handling truck or hunting do all. If you've got that covered like I think Santa has got me ;) then next on my list is a combloc battle stick. Just really like the looks of those things for awhile now. It's next.

Guys thanks for the quick input. I should have mentioned I am pretty well covered in the AR department. Mainly looking for a cool rifle that I could take to an outdoor range and kill some paper targets. Since i have the 5.56 caliber already in stock it kinda makes since to stay in that caliber with another rifle. Like the looks of the mini and the folding stocks. How dependable and how accurate are the mini distance wise? I imagine I would be plinking around 100 yards, surely they can do that?
Okay let me throw a spin on this thread. I do NOT own one but I'm looking at them pretty hard. The rifles I'm referring to are the Kel Tec carbines in 223. They are bargain priced and use AR15/M16 mags. I really like the one that folds and still shoots. ( They all fold for storage but one has a kind of skeletonized stock that lets you reach the trigger with it folded.) Please excuse me for not knowing the model numbers.
