Hey y'all. I'm having more and more trouble tolerating indoor shooting. I'm in Kennesaw. I've heard mixed reviews about the DNR/WMA ranges. Other than the super expensive River Bend, anyone have any experience with the WMA ranges or know of anywhere I could shoot outdoors?

I am currently a member at Georgia Firing Line in Canton, but the concussion and the fumes are getting to me.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Hey thanks for responding. When you say public events, do you mean matches? Or can you just go and shoot targets or props?

Some of the 'matches' are so low-effort events that you're basically plinkling with strangers. You have rules to follow and someone's scoring, but that's about it.

RB make no effort to hide that it's also a lightweight chance to recruit you as a member, but you're under no obligation.

I know it's indoor, but it's my understanding that you don't have to be a member to shoot at Governors' either.

I'm in Kennesaw also. Unfortunately, there aren't many options for outdoor shooting around here, however to answer your question Wilson Shoals WMA range is pretty nice. 100 yard rifle range and plenty of pistol bays. The bad news is it's a 90 minute drive from Kennesaw. That said, I do go up there a couple times a year to get outdoors.

All the matches are open to the public. You can find a schedule on the website calendar at www.rbgc.org Basically every type of shooting is covered.

You have to be a member or a guest of a member to use the facilities outside of matches.

I will say it's been well worth the investment. Swallowing the initiation fee is tough, but the yearly dues really aren't that bad. I can't stand indoor ranges so being able to have an entire outdoor bay to myself whenever I want is priceless.

Thank you. That helps. 👍🏼

You can inbox me for info. I’m located in Marietta. These people let me camp out at the range.

Try Governors Club for better indoor ventilation. Public outdoor range that I use is at the Charles Elliot wildlife center (Marbin Farms) close to Portadale/Mansfield. They have state of the are target system up to 100 yards. Bring a shotgun and shoot trap and skeet as well.
