If you're using a progressive it ain't feasible to clean. That's a major reason I can't keep any automated press of any type for very long.

Is it a necessity? Not likely. I can't stand not doing it though.

I'll skip something like the tumbling every time before skipping any type of performance/reliabilty related prep. Being OCD and anal, it's just the way I do it.

eh, depends, you might as well but all i do is look at the pocket and if i see any crud in there i scoop it out.

there's a difference between burned and crud though

I have NEVER cleaned a primer pocket ... pistol or rifle. Now I will take and debur primer pockets on my precision loads, that I have found to be helpful

Nope, not pistol. Never saw any real need. I tap the case on my press mount to knock any cleaning media out just prior to inserting it in the progressive press. Works fine, don't tap and eventually a chunk of media will gum up the works.

Precision rifle is another matter that includes uniform flash holes as well.
