I think I am going to start conseal carry my AR pistol. That would be fun to explain to the officer.... sir, its a pistol, measure the barrel.

So my question is on an AR Pistol.

Is there an overall length rule?

I have a 8.5" barrel and want to put a 7" supressor on it. Legal or Illegal if all the other criteria is followed. This is as confusing as our tax code.

There is no "length" rule for pistols. If it is "a weapon originally designed, made, and intended to fire a projectile (bullet) from one or more barrels when held in one hand, and having (a) a chamber(s) as an integral part(s) of, or permanently aligned with, the bore(s); and (b) a short stock designed to be gripped by one hand and at an angle to and extending below the line of the bore(s)" Then it is a pistol regardless of length." according to the ATF.

I believe you just have to tell them it's no longer an SBR same as if making a rifle into an SBR.

If it started life as a pistol, yes, it can be converted back to a pistol.
