If you go nowhere else - Jim Shaw's - hand's down. I always east on the bar side.

Out of all the BBQ places in middle GA I think I like Georgia Bob's better than any of them. But I don't know if there are any beyond Warner Robins and Byron. There's a Fresh Air BBQ in N. Macon right off I-75 that's good and close.
Good suggestion. I always forget about them because we never went to Macon when we lived in Peach Co. But Jim Shaw's was the first place I had Gator Tail. And they had Glenlivet which a lot of places didn't.If you go nowhere else - Jim Shaw's - hand's down. I always east on the bar side.

It's funny you say that about the service. I've only been to the one in Perry and the little one at Russell and Houston Lake. But each BBQ joint around middle GA has their strong and weak points. I like the pulled pork at Bob's like you said. But their stew is just okay. Granted the stew at Finchers ain't what it used to be. Hell my favorite thing on the menu at Finchers is them greasy little burgers. I like the chicken plate out at Old Clinton in Gray. My wife grew up in Gray and wouldn't go there. Maybe that was some kind of important sign I missed.I like their pulled pork as it isn't slathered in some type of sauce to add weight. Their service is absolutely some of the worst I've ever seen in any restaurant in the U.S. and I cannot remember them EVER getting an order correct when I've been there (at least two dozen times - I know, glutton for punishment).
Still, the smoked chicken salad is ridiculously good.
