So traffic is up but ad sponsors are down? It’s cool and I’m not upset about the $1 a month for ads to post for no. Supporters but I wonder we had less traffic but more sooner revenue. Serious question. What changed? Maybe a gun forum isn’t a good use of ad sponsor funds in this economic climate. Again serious comment without any disdain for the site. It’s your business to run obviously but I think that might be a good question to ask the current sponsors on why they aren’t ponying up more. There’s got to be a good reason. Hope this helps.
It's more complicated than that, I'll try to make it a quick story. I'll also add that this is all just my theory and could be completely off.

For the last 5 years or so there have been two major ad networks that dealt with gun websites like ours. That's it, no one else would deal with any of us, but it worked ok. Over the last few years those ad companies started acquiring gun websites as well, a lot of popular sites, I'm sure everyone has seen at least one or two of them that got sold in the last few years. Both companies made offers for ODT but I declined them.

As the ad companies grew their networks they were able to show their ads on them and they began to not need independent sites like ours as much, but everything was still ok, I don't need much to survive.

Last year that changed, these two companies that dominated the entire space merged into one and my rate dropped 25% instantly. Now, even with the lower rate, the amount of ads they take has dropped probably 80% from last year at this time. My theory is now that they have merged their networks they just don't need independent sites anymore, or at least not right now. They are probably hurting too, I think the demand for this type of advertising is dying as stuff like google ads and instagram and facebook continue to dominate. You've also got some web browsers starting to block ads by default now, it's hard to sell ads if they are being blocked right out of the box.

I’m Michael Jordan baby, let’s ball.

Wasn’t GON “scared” of ODT? Looked what happened...
No one is scared of anyone. It's an internet forum for trading guns, in GA, anyone who takes it more seriously than that is stressing themselves out. I'm good.

Amazing how dynamic the market can be. I guess it's like having the rules change in the middle of the game.

A little bit yeah, but it's all good. Life is always changing and I'm not entitled to do this forever but I'm sure gonna try.
