I am at a point where you do what you have to do whether it’s a $1 a month or $10 a month I’m not paying it. I am tired of getting unfair negative feedback and you will not do anything about it. So I’m still on here as long as it’s free. You start charging and I’m gone.

According to the original post, the win-win for everyone will only happen if the change is made AND nobody leaves. If folks get mad and leave then those left will be paying extra for the same ads they see today.

I voted that it would likely hurt the site, but I'm personally kinda on the fence here. I might be OK kicking down $10-15 bucks a year (I mean, if we gotta), but me and lots of folks live so far from Atlanta and N Ga (where the bulk of ODT activity takes place), that I already miss out on tons of deals because of the distance. So I always felt those of us living far from N Atl were on the outside looking in, not really one of the gang, so to speak.
I think this will run some folks off, and drastically reduce new members coming in, and just increase the number of folks using their local Armslist (which is still my preference, due to it being local, even having no feedback and it's high volume of jerk-offs).
But, if the current system with the ads is working, I say leave it alone. Sure, I hate ads as much as anybody, but we're all so inundated with them already, on every other site, what's the difference really gonna be?
I kinda prefer the idea of charging a buck per ad, to post it. This is obviously a bit more equitable, but, you'd run into issues collecting, with folks that don't do paypal.
Eh, it's a tough call, lemme know how it shakes out.

If anyone can afford the cost of the internet then they should be able to afford the dollar. This site is great and has for the most part some really Great members IMO. I think you should consider $ 25.00 for a year membership or 1.00 per month posting privileges in the classifieds. Everyone here has an opinion and ultimately you as the owner will have to carefully evaluate what all the member have posted against your operating expenses and find the balanced conclusion.

I've never heard such pissing and moaning in my life. Not even in the "OMG that retard wants $1,000 for a Glock!!!" threads. $1 per month? That's gonna set you back is it? What incredibly poor financial decisions have you made during your life that $1 per month ad posting fee causes you such angst? I say good riddance to bad rubbish. Okay, nothing ban hammer worthy here but flame away!

I've had good experiences with all my deals since this forum took over from the old one, I believe in most cases if someone has a problem paying $1.00 a month, that tells me their the kind of person I don't want to do a deal with anyway. I'm frankly amazed that more people are saying no to the $1.00 charge than there are that are okay with it.

Five ads a day per category, 15 categories I believe. That is a possibility of 75 separate items for sale every day for us normal joes.
Damn that would be a lot of work...
