Rather than pay a dollar to list an add, I would just go back to exclusively listing any thing I had to sell on other forums that I still utilize from time to time. It will cost me more that $1 for sure to ship, but I’ll feel a whole lot better about it in the end.
Would you really stop selling here because of $1 a month? Just principle?

Discouraging price gouging and crazy postings would make it better. I would rather have quality over quantity.

I'd say price gouging is selling 16 oz bottled water for $25 in an area just devastated by a hurricane. But on this site nobody has to buy anything. The sellers will go elsewhere if they get no PMs about the item.

So how about a flag for paid supporters only - you can thumbs up if you like an item and it's price OR thumbs down for it, if you feel it's over priced. Only the seller could see this info and no other comments would be allowed.

How's that for a fair compromise? :pop2:

I agree. Buncha cheap bastards

I don't think the question in the poll has anything to with "cheap bastards."

No question that anybody that participates in the Sell forums can afford a dollar. The question is will they - will the site retain a vigorous participation by sellers of all backgrounds.

If you follow the few comments, or have tried to put together a deal, you know that the site is already full of cheap bastards. Folks who won't cut a price $5 or drive to the end of their driveway, or God forbid, ship something. The site is full of folks selling a POS gun for $300 with a trade value of $500.

These are the folks that are going to quit participating. The discussion is not about "can they afford it" or "is paying for an ad the right thing to do" or "is it logical", the issue is will doing so hurt the forum. I think there is no question that instituting a fee will hurt the forum, so the real question is to what degree, or will the benefits out weigh the loss in traffic. I doubt that any one that I've seen on this forum so far has the background or skill to do a business analysis, and crunch some numbers. So at the end of the day and another 20 pages of comments, it's going to come down to someone's best guess.

You have to note that even CL is not free in every category. Depending on the market and the product category, it charges a fee.

Personally, if I was going to make a change, I'd give everyone a free 2 week listing, and charge a dollar every time they relisted an item for the same price. I think that WOULD help the forum by freshening up the sales forums and that would generate more traffic.

i gave up after 10 pages --
No objection to paying but like another said i don't use credit card, etc -
make payment by check available please -
you might try yearly volutary contributions -- I know cast boolits does that -

Most forums are like that but I've been pretty good about keeping our database clear of too much junk. You say 2,000 in the last 12 months, how's 4,000 in the last day?

Boom ! Now thats a figure!
Ya got all them folks breezin thru and we only get 500+ to hit the poll?? Somethin wrong with that.
This is something that affects the forum.....not that many care enough to vote for it i guess.

Oh, fyi....the idea of 1 free then charge is best, imo.

I agree everyone can charge what they want. I'm also not saying tell the seller to go **** himself if the price is stupid high. Just maybe a friendly reminder that his/her particular weapon retails for 100.00 less. It will free up time/clutter. Better yet maybe an over/under 500.00 price point. Just speaking out loud. I'm an outdoorsman/shooter not a salesman so what do I know.
