Again, if something is free and it sucks, it's not a big deal... Gun shows, this forum, etc...
But when you are asking people to pay to use something, then it creates a certain expectation in their mind, that a value will be provided...
I have purchased 10 guns in the past few months. All of them from local gun stores. I looked for them here, and in every single case, the used gun here, was more than the new gun at the dealer. I racked up a lot of sales and trades in my first year here, and then it quickly went down hill. I try to price my items at least $25 less than I see them for on Bud's or GA Gun store, which is probably why 90% of the things I sell, sell within 24 hours. I tend to price things fairly.
A lot of folks, don't. And that's ok, but when the overpriced stuff becomes the norm, and the market value becomes the exception, I think it makes this forum a lot less desirable of a market... which again, is fine when it is free... but if we are going to a "pay to play" model, I would hope that we improve things.
Call me crazy...
I agree with you, and it somewhat easy with Glocks or a stock Remington 700 to price appropriately, but what do you do when you get a custom gun, you know you’re going to lose your shirt if you have to sell, you price it anywhere from $500-$1k off what you paid for an some “expert” informs you that it’s too expensive.
I’m running into that issue now. I have an AR10 for sale on the forum that’s $1200 off shelf price (yes it’s used, but not $1200 used) and guys are still telling me it’s just an “AR” or they want to trade a stock Rem 700 for it. Transactions are a two way street. It can be just as insulting on the selling end.
