As usual, you are spot on. We have both been here long enough to remember the days when the "Supporter" badge was invented, and the days when "Supporters" would post ads and only sell to "Supporters ONLY", because everybody else was bad lol. From day one for a few vocal in the minority the supporter badge has been a chest thumping soap box to assuage their oppressed, inferior imaginations. This thread is no different. They show up to tell everybody what great men they are, lol. Most "supporters" are like the rest of the unbadged/unwashed....pretty decent men Somethings never change.

LOL, my supporter badge was obtained by making a one time 5 dollar donation back when the site was brand new.

It means nothing to me nor do I ever look to see if others have one.

I love ODT and wouldn't have an issue with the $1, although some others will but you can't please everyone. I too would be a check mailer though as I don't put credit cards out there for anything. Just please don't let anything happen to my ODT

Not entirely true, we got here because they closed their classifieds completely. And when they came back they wanted $1 an ad, not a $1 a month. And we're bigger now than they were at that time.
I certainly wouldn't bitch about a dollar. As ling as you could take the money from debit/credit etc. But if you did do it that way wouldn't you get dinged for 3 to 4% depending on the bank or brand of card?
I keep saying I'm gonna reup my supporter status and at the same time forgetting about it until I'm broke again .

My favorite deals are with the 1 post new guys who are only here to sell a gun or two. They found the ODT looking for free classifieds and it met that criteria. I would bet that’s how a bunch of us ended up here.

That’s how I ended up here in a round about way. Had I had to pay to post way back when I was looking to sell a few guns, I would have never signed up.

Sure, the regulars will pay, but how many new members will never sign up because they are not willing to pay to post on an unfamiliar forum?

I think it’s a great idea for raising funds, but I also think it will stifle growth.

I think this sums up one of the two most valid counter concerns. Cheapskates will cheapskate but the above is a more accurate detrimental scenario with the other being the anonymity aspect.
