Your right, they do have a place. In the garbage can. Even the air soft gun I bought my son is has an aluminum lower. They have their place, but not in my line up. I could see it being feasible for a 22 or featherweight build, but not for a duty gun.

The question is why would you with pricing for lowers back down to where it is? For example. the PSA blem/LPK combo they run all the time for $99 is less than a NFA lower and a seperate LPK. To each their own.
Do you seriously think there is a quantifiable difference between polymer lowers? One of those didn't even survive shipping. One bad fall in the woods and that polymer lower is likely toast. And don't even think about mortaring it if you get a stuck case. Sooner or later, the polymer will give up the ghost and it will be long before a forged lower would even come close to breaking. Is it really worth saving less than a hundred bucks to have what is essentially a disposable lower receiver? These are not "Builds". They are Bushmaster, that explains it...
Is forged better, in most cases yes... Are all poly bad, no...

Actually out the door these were about $480 summer of 2012 from a good guy on here. I dont like them and wouldnt own them, but for what they cost then that wasnt a bad deal for a plinker. They would still sell for that on here. To each their own.400 dollar upper, 70 dollar stock, 10 dollar Pmag, 20 dollar pistol grip. The lower, the magwell grip and the NC Star scope, I wouldn't give a nickel for. So what could be a 600-700 dollar rifle is only worth about 500 due to the hassle of having to switch out the lower. 30 bucks of savings isn't worth 100-200 loss in value IMO.
