My mother would tame birds, by blowing cigar smoke in their cage. They would get kind of dizzy and she would handle them. Sometimes in special cases she would wrap her hand reach in the cage grab them and give them a shotgun of smoke. She would do this and in about a weeks time the bird would be tame. She learned this from watching elders in her youth taming wild birds.
