My thoughts exactly. Of course I'm not married either, but if I was and my wife was more concerned with where a gift come from and how much it cost rather than appreciate the damn thing I probably wouldn't be married long.

I had a serious conversation with my wife several years ago about her desire to spend several thousand dollars (on credit) on a wedding ring upgrade to show off to her friends at work. She finally understood that a rock is a rock and that a CZ ring is just as "real" as a diamond ring. I got her a flashy CZ/white gold from Amazon that was just as big and nice. Celebrated our 10th anniversary this year btw.

I second the pawn shop/jeweler cleanup idea if you find a good deal.
