I got this 22 magnum bolt action rifle -- Marlin model 882 -- specifically to deal with a coyote problem in my backyard a few years ago. I estimated the shots would be no more than 60 yards because that's the distance to the woods and trees in the furthest corner of my yard.

But I never baited the coyotes, and every time I heard them howling or heard my neighbors' dogs barking suspiciously as if strange animals were around, as soon as I would crack the door open to step outside the coyotes would run.

So I never even saw a coyote while holding this rifle!

The rifle was kept handy with a 4D cell Mag Light attached underneath the stock and I shimmed the mounts so that the bullets would hit in the center of the circle of light.

I sold this rifle, here, a couple years ago.

Now the only long gun that is constantly kept handy and accessible in my house, not in the safe, is the old 12 gauge hanging over the fireplace mantle.

If I have the sudden need to deal with a wild or rabid animal in my backyard, I guess I'm gonna hit it with a 12 gauge!
