Rattle can paint job resale value.

Removing the scope from the rifle is no big deal, so the next question is, how safe is it to Cerakote a scope. I've been told it's unsafe because of the heat, but then I see ones that have been Cerakoted. WTH?
You do the air dry cerakote for optics. I spray painted my nightforce when it was on my old rifle then removed it before I installed it on my new one.

Before

During

After I removed it from the scope

I don't care much for painted actions due to it can cause some problems with the function, the paint can degrade a little after cleaning and working the bolt, moving parts etc. Had to tear a couple of friends down and clean the crap off because they didn't have the tools to take down the bolt, after it gummed up the bolt
Scopes are usually cerakoted with air cured.

As far as taking the barreled action out of the stock, just make sure you torque it back in with a inch pound torque wrench, then make sure it's sighted in, can change your POI when you first put it back in stock.

Okay, there is an air cure cerakote which is designed specifically for your (scope) application. The biggest issues with cerakoting an assembled gun is consistent coating, sand binding up in the internals, and binding on friction surfaces. All that said, the barrel and receiver would not necessarily have to dis-assembled to get a good bake on finish.

Oh, and for what its worth tearing the rifle down to ceracoke shouldn't mess with the accuracy. High end customs get built, test fitted, and then torn down (sometimes several times) before final assembly. It will certainly require you to have to zero it again, but the accuracy should still be there. :thumb:
