Deferred maintenance is a slippery slope. When to do preventive V/S when to replace. There is no answer as to when but I am glad you made the choice.

When done, sit back, relax and keep cooking for your family in the peace that it is done.

This maintenance thing is getting out of control. I dread the day (in the very near future) when I am going to have to hire someone with a bushhog to clean out my rain gutters!

I like urethane or marine caulk. Not as easy to work with but it lasts damn near forever.
