Rifle Tripod

There are a number of clamps. Triclaws, RRS, Crux, Hog Saddle and Pig saddle come to mind. There are more. The Pig Saddle is peobably your best budget option.

Just like your rifle, glass, bipod and everything else, your planned usage and end goal is going to determine your requirements for a tripod and the accoutrements. Which in turn will put you in different prices. Which is why my first questions were budget and intended use. If just hunting and looking for a bit more stability, then you are probably good with something like a Shockey shooting tripod. Light, fast and easy to pack.

I’d really like something that can outperform me. My rifle is much more capable than I am. I hate to invest in something that could potentially limit me down the road. I like to buy things once vs. have to upgrade. I’d like to use this rifle in shooting longer distances but have yet to do so.

Work on your long distance shooting first. See if you even want/need a tripod. Shoot off of someone else's first as well.

Best? Really Right Stuff SOAR equipment. Exceptional budlt budget minded? Look at Leofoto tripods, leveling bases and heads.

2 vet sporting goods has a good tripod for around $400. Spend money on the leveling base and ball head. That is what gives you the extra stability.

What I currently run is a Slik pro 700dx tripod with a Leofot NB46 ball head. I primarily use it for a spotting scope, but can and have used it for shooting with a 20+ lb rifle. Solid enough. I have had better tripod setups, but I rarely use em for shooting, so I have gotten rid of em.

I have shot of off RRS Soar, Crux, Leofoto and the 2 Vet Sporting Goods No Name tripods with various high dollar heads and bases. They are phenomenal, but me personally, I wouldn't use em enough for my bank account to justify the costs.

At some point, if you truly do get into tripod shooting, you probably will move toarca swiss. The manfrotto pistol grip is not a fit for arca.

ALL OF THESE IM SURE ARE GREAT TRIPODS. However I only have experience with Manfrotto tripods and Hog Saddle tripods.

Durability and functionality wise, they will all holts up to the riggers of what you intend to use them for.

Question you should answer to yourself is:

* How often are you using this equipment?
* What types of terrain are you projecting to be shooting from?
* Cost!

If your looking for a lesser expensive tripod but built as good as the others listed above but don’t want to spend a ton or a bunch of “cha-Ching”, look at: You make up your mind!

Like I said, I’ll let you shoot from my setup if you like.

Then look for whatever ball head suits your needs:)

Have fun with it!!!!!

I like the price range. The saddle is EXPENSIVE. Can someone enlighten me on why tripod set ups are so expensive?

Also, your ball head is it meant for rifles? I’m having a hard time finding a picture of how it mounts to the rifle online.

When I get home I’ll take some additional photos for you. It screws on to the center column.

Please see the head and tripod and how they attach.

US Army Sniper School has been using these for years as well as Snipers within the operational force.

USMC Scout Sniper Course has been using the same heads for years along the side of the US Army Sniper Course and Scout Snipers within the USMC.

The head is bey sturdy and reliable. There are other ball heads that are way better I’m sure and will not knock them.

You need to consider the 3 bullet points above before you make a decision.

Respectfully

Chris
