Ruger just announced a GP-100 in 10mm

actually 10mm has some very real advantages over .357, first when looking at out right max loading the 10mm can still have even more energy than the .357, its close but the 10mm can still edge out a little more. but the real difference is the way they can do it with most really hot .357 requiring a light bullet where as 10mm can still generate 700ft/lbs using a 180gr round. for something like bear protection i'd choose the 10mm over the .357
So I went by AO on their 'Ruger Days' to check out the Security 9. I'd been hearing good things about it but hand't really handled it, and a couple of folks at work were interested. It was one of their sale items for $265 if I remember, almost HiPoint money.
Never even got a chance to touch one.
I was waiting for one of the counter guys (they were busy at the Ruger counter) and I saw they had this in stock. Not a super deal, but with the 10% off it came to $800 with the tax, or about what I've seen them online for, plus I got a 'free' Ruger hat.
Dry firing it feels a lot smoother than the regular GP, and I like the fiber optic sight, but I'm dying to get it to the range and see how an all-steel revolver handles some Underwood. I'll post back come more once I have a few rounds through it.

After shooting it a few times now I think he's spot on.
Great gun, and the only 'issue' is at the top of the grip. It's doesn't fit that well and tends to slap you pretty smartly in the web of your thumb.
It's surprisingly accurate as well, more so than the regular 357, from a box or so each side-by-side off my range bag. Not a huge difference by definitely some tighter groups. Trigger felt exactly the same as my regular GP-100, so I don't know that they really did anything there to this 'Match Champion' gun.
I forgot to bring the moon clips with me, and as MAC found out, they aren't really necessary. I went through 150 rounds or so in two sessions and never had a problem just flicking the brass out with a finger tip. In most cases it just fell out.
Sights are pretty standard, with the usual GP rear and a fiber front. I had bought the same front long ago for my 357 model, and the combination is one of my favorites.
Overall a pretty good revolver. Not cheap, but try and fine a 10mm S&W for under a grand. Bud's has these for $750 if I remember, so not all that pricey compared to other revolvers these days. I am going to swap the grip, which may run from $30 or so to over $100 if I go for the 'Classic' wood grips they have for GPs, but that's about it.

Jee wizz! ONE THOUUSAND DOOLLARRRRS! I think I would just keep on relying on my Alexandria Arms 357. I love that revolver. Looks sweet and shoots as good as it looks. For that money I would have to go with the RIA Tacll Ultra Fs- Hi Cap and raid the Wilson Combat site for some bullet proof parts and have a sweet 2nd 10mm in the 1911 platform. I love my 1911 long slide 10 mil. I can't see losing 3 rounds.
The grip is a little funky too.
Yeah, not wild about the factory grip. I put on some Pachmayrs on it to try out and they look good, but I haven't had a chance to test how they feel yet.
As for the price, that was the S&W 610 I saw for around $1K.

Yeah, be under powered compared to the magnums anyway. Different, cool, but I don’t have enough money to buy just for the “cool” factor.
