Ruger mini 14 - 186 serial Number - question?

I have a ruger mini 14 that I got in a trade - I think it is a 90s model - I have seen a wide array of prices on gun broker on what they are selling for - is there a difference between a newer ruger and an older model? Kinda like with marlin in JM. Anyone have an knowledge in this.

The older one are more likely to exceed minute of barn accuracy than the newer ones with a heavier profile barrel.

The early 180 series has a roller on the bolt,the newer model just has a stub.
My 180 series is more accurate than the current model I own but it is more difficult to mount a scope.

Not much change through the years (same basic, reliable design) other than front/rear sight changes, stocks, finish's, and caliber options. Added Ranch Rifle to the model name at some point too.

A lot of people give the Mini Series a bad rap due to their accuracy issues and more expensive magazines but mine have never had a hiccup and are fun gun's to shoot.

Regarding all those blow hard’s who claim a mini can’t hit the broadside of a barn, I’d like to challenge anyone to STAND in front of that barn
