I always have had the opinion that if you don’t see locals swimming or diving in an area, it is worth your time to talk to the older guys to find out why. They have lived long enough to know what will kill you.

You see those aerial photos of sharks swimming all around people in the surf, always wondered why no more frequent attacks.
Used to swim off the pier on the back river at Tybee ‘til a fisherman caught a 6’ hammerhead there.

We'd swim on Jekyll even when we could see sands and hammerheads. The only time I got the hell out of the water was if somebody shouted, "MAKO!"

A long, long time ago, I was about 300 meters off shore, and I was "bumped" by a great white shark. I then decided, surfing isn't my thing.

Saw this yesterday. It could have been worse if it was a smaller bull shark. Looked like it happened fast at the end.
