School Me on Lever Guns

If your going to Mount a Scope to it, then go for the Marlin 336 model, If your not going to Mount a Scope, then a Rossi Model 92 .357 is a very nice Lever Action Rifle. They make them in Stainless or Blued, 16 - 24" Octagon or Round Barrel lengths. Of course then there is always the the Model 94 Winchester.

I have the Marlin 336 in 30-30 manufactured back in 1972 and has never been fired. Yet! I inherited it but have not had a chance to shoot it. Would love to put a Skinner Rear Peep Sight on it but the price is a little out of my range right now.

Unless you can find a pre-Remington Marlin, I would keep far, far away from them. Don't get me wrong, back in the day they made awesome pistol caliber carbines, but you'll pay through the nose for garbage if you buy one of them today.

I bought a 1894C a year or two back, and it's one of the worst lever guns I've ever owned. The quality on the new Marlins is incredibly bad. The action on this one was full of burrs, and there were two screws missing (brand new gun!). Take a look at the Marlin forums and you'll see that I got off cheaply. It works OK after being torn down and buffed out, but it's still not as smooth as the $450 Rossi I handled a few months back and not even close to the Henry rifles.

I also wouldn't give a dime to Freedom group, who owns Marlin/Remington, so that would be another reason to avoid them in a new gun.

The last downside to Marlins is the cost. A pre-Remington version in .357/.44 will easily cost you $800 if it's in good condition. You can get a decent Rossi for half that, and a good Henery for about the same or less.

I love my Rossi in 38/357. The only issues I had with it out of the box were that the mag tube spring was too long and the POS plastic mag spring follower.
Both easy fixes. Runs like a fine watch.

Well, I have always been partial to unusual guns. I believe this Mossberg SPX464 fits the bill perfectly. A tacticool lever gun, I mean what else could you want? hahahahahahaha!

JWC, that weathered piece of lattice which you often use for background sure looks better with pretty, shiny Smiths on it than with that!
