School Me on Lever Guns

I'll put in a plug for Rossi, got a 44 Mag with 20" barrel to go with my S&W 629, very nice shooter. Looking for one in 38/357 to go with my S&W 66. I have shot Marlins, Winchesters and Henrys as well. I like them all.

I've shot several tactical rifle matches with a Winchester Model 94 AE in .357 Magnum. I like the ability to combat load (load a single round like a shotgun) the Model 94 affords.

If you're looking for a Cadillac get a Browning BLR. ;)

Marin fan here but no hate for the winchester. I once owned 44 and .357 (As well as 22, 30-30, & 35). The .357 is a great plinker, especially with .38's but I ended up selling it because I hardly ever used it.

Odd thing is I think the 38.357 is the most versatile cartridge in handguns, and it is 75% of what I shoot -- but in a rifle, the .44 just won out for me over the .357. I have even put up my 30-30, and hunt deer with my 44 mag.

One thing I highly recommend, especially for hunting, is Skinner sights. I never liked scopes on lever guns (don't use them in general) but those Skinner peep sites really help in those 50+ yard, and quick shots.

Comparing the .44 and the .357 is an apples and oranges sort of thing. The .44 wins hands down every time. :) On the flip side I like the broader range of versatility the .357 offers. It can be downloaded to take small game or uploaded to take on all but the largest North American game. I was reading an article just today on a load of a 158 grain bullet chronographed at 2100 fps. That's some serious whacking power out of a pistol cartridge.

I have a set of semi buckhorns on my .357. They are fast to pick up and accurate out to 100 yards or so. I've thought about trying some of the different peep sights but in the end I keep on using the buckhorns, which by the way were the first reflex sight. :)

Traded off my trusty winchester model 94 angle eject.

Worked great with a low mount scope and was an incredible rifle for me.

I am kicking myself for trading it off because I bought it new shortly before Winchester quit so to make up for it I aquired a Marlin MXLR in .308 express, stainless and laminate to make myself feel better.

I hope to aquire a marlin 30-30 trade soon.

Here's the MXLR, and yes I like scopes on so e of them, but irons and peeps stay on the old school ones for me.

marlins r good but i am a winchester guy just cause marlins will filing a shell case back into my face or back onto my horses butt. a winchester throws it well clear over my head and away from my horse
as far as the scope thing they r saddle guns meant to be carried on a horse not a good combo for a scope

Marlin fan here.
I hunt with an 1894c (.357) with Skinner sights.

I make up some light reloads for plinking so the recoil is pretty much non existent.

My hunting rounds can pack an unexpected wallop- more than you'd expect from this gun.

So I will agree with what others have said. The .357 is the most versatile cartridge out there.
