Selling Dad’s gun…

My Mother died when I was young. I did get $6k as my Mother's part of the inheritance. Honestly, I was surprised I got that. What guns he had were passed down to his boys. I imagine nothing worth much. I really never saw much of anything along the way.
My Dad did get my Grandfather's single shot shotgun. But the house got burglarized and the guns my Dad had were stolen when I was a kid. He did get a few nice ones later. He still has those, maybe I'll get most of those. There are a couple that my sister's Grandfather had. I may need to keep those for safe keeping for my Nephew.

The 3 family firearms I have are my grandmother's .22 bolt-action rifle from the 1920's ?, it's the 1st firearm I ever handled & fired, back when I was 9 or 10 yo,, and I received my dad's S&W mdl 49 & 66 revolvers after he passed 25 yrs ago

My 84yo mom still shoots her Mossberg 410 shotguns and has a few revolvers, I pray she continues shooting varmints until she's a centenarian
Don't piss her off. She might singe a few hairs in the never regions......

Actually... I did piss her off last September over something silly to me, serious to her. Only recently actual normal conversations again after almost 5 months of 3 word, 1-liners from her. Strong German heritage woman :loco:
You know what they say. Women bring you into this world and they can take you out......

My dad got shot accidentally while rabbit hunting when he was young. No guns were allowed at our house because of that. I do have a old paper 20 gauge shell that was in the gun he carried when he got shot.
I’ve told this story before about my Grandpa. He died when I was 4. I remember him riding me on his lap on. JD Model A to the back field and eating a watermelon next to it.
He had a old single shot Steven’s 22. He would take the bolt out of it and let drag it around the house. I got it hanging on my wall. Worth a couple of million.

I have four sons and five grandsons…so far lol. I have already passed down to them numerous firearms that have sentimental value
(like my dad’s guns). Also some passed down some guns that were just nice guns for birthdays, graduation gifts, etc.
None of the guns are junk and some of them (like a S&W 952-2 or a factory Knights AR) have significant collector value.
Some of the guns were just for carry or self defense…like maybe a 20 ga pump shotgun or a Glock.
The last category of guns above I could really care less what they choose to do with…use, trade, sell, etc.
The former categories, especially the guns from my father or collectible high end stuff, I wish they would keep and pass down one day.
Or at least offer them to other siblings before selling.
Honestly, if they were in a bad way financially and needed the money to pay bills then fine, sell them.
Hopefully they wouldn’t sell them just to buy a new PlayStation or whatever?

Vent over. I have just seen quite a few comments in the fo sale ads lately that casually mention…”my Dad’s gun”.
Like someone once said - “I ain’t sayin it’s right or it’s wrong…I’m just sayin it sticks in my craw.”
For some reason I tend to pass over those ads.
Amen

My dad didn't own any guns. My daughter could care less about the guns I own. That said my nephew in law, great nephew, and great niece like firearms. I will sell what I want when I want. I'll gift some over the coming years, and the family can do whatever with what's left when I'm gone.

After years of forming memories with my son as hunters and outdoorsman, he endured years ortho problems, he became victim to drug addiction. I lost all my guns of family value. This was crushing at that time. My son is recovering addict for 10 years and has turned his life around. The loss of the guns pales in comparison to seeing my son as the man of God, he has become, i have refilled my safe over years with gums I can now pass down to him and his kids.
