Was browsing for a new AR online and I came across something that I can’t find any real info on and was looking to get a little info. On Gunbroker I found a Sharps-15 AR. The listing doesn’t go into any real detail and all I can find online and through Chat GPT is that it’s a company that produced ARs and then was bought and now produces only parts for ARs. But that’s the extent of what I know. Can someone shed some more light on this for me please.

There is more than one AR company with Sharps in the name. Sharps Bros (Oregon) and Sharps Rifle Company (Virginia) are two of them. The company affiliated with the pic you posted seems to be a third, since it's located in Missouri.

Interesting, when I had it looked up all I could find is that the company was bought out in like 2015 and is now part of another that just manufactures parts but not whole ARs anymore. I wonder what the actual value and reliability of this would be.

Here’s what I got from Chat GPT when I uploaded the information.
  • Model: ShARps-15 (Sharps AR-15 platform)
  • Caliber Markings:
    • 5.56mm – .50 Cal
      • This likely means the lower receiver is marked and multi-caliber capable (e.g. could be used with .50 Beowulf uppers as well as standard 5.56/.223), though it is most often used with 5.56.

  • Manufacturer:
    • Sharps Mill Specs
    • Location: Saint Louis, MO

  • Serial Number: 0003791
  • Selector Switch: Standard AR-style Safe/Fire
  • Trigger: Appears to be a single-stage, curved aluminum trigger (possibly aftermarket)

💰

Estimated Used Value (As Seen)

Assuming it’s a complete rifle with a standard 5.56 upper and typical furniture:

  • Base Lower Only (Stripped or Complete): $150–$250
  • Complete Rifle w/ Standard Upper: $700–$950
  • With Upgrades (Relia-Bolt, custom upper, optics, etc.): Up to $1,200+
  • With .50 Beowulf Upper: Add $300–$500

🔎 Notable Quirks:

  • That “5.56mm – .50 Cal” engraving throws people off, but it just means the receiver is compatible with uppers chambered in both calibers—not that it’s some sort of wild hybrid gun.
  • Sharps is known for their Relia-Bolt (improved extractor design) and balanced bolt carrier group, so if yours has those internals, it’s definitely a premium touch.

I do not believe the Sharps Mil Spec company you are looking for is the same Sharps company that makes the Relia-Bolt. The maker of the Relia-Bolt is the Sharps Rifle Company (SRC) out of Virginia, which is still in business.

That's fine, because the SRC Relia-Bolt is a POS anyways.

That’s good to know thank you for the info

Chat gpt just read the markings on the lower for you and rolled the dice on google, no?
