Side by side recommendations

I’ve never hunted with a four wheeler or a side by side. I think it’s time to break down and get one.

I think I would be better with a side by side so it could be used around the house as well. Plus I think it would be easier to get in vs a four wheeler, especially for my father.

Think I can do by with a two seater with a bed. And I definitely want 4wd. I’m assuming it will fit on my 5x10 trailer.

What brand/models do you recommend? Should I go for diesel? Buying used, what do I need to look out for?

I have a Kubota RTV 500 gas and it has been fantastic (2010 model) no issues ever.

I have a 2017 Ranger 1000. 5x10 would be tight. It's a great machine. I had a Honda Recon and really liked it but we'd have to get creative sometimes strapping a deer to the back. The upside of the Ranger is the bed space, the power, 4wd that can go anywhere, and comfort. The downside is the size and turning radius. I could take the Recon through some tight spots. The Ranger, not so much. I use the Ranger more around the house than anything. Limbs and yard debris are a piece of cake. I have had zero issues with my Ranger since I bought in in fall of 2017. Great machine.

I have a Kawasaki Mule Pro FXT which can seat 6 (3 front 3 back) the FXT model can be transformed into a single bench and larger bed

A mule pro is tough to beat. Stick to a major brand you can find parts for and get repaired if you need it

Polaris 570 ranger, midsize. Mines a workhorse and is small enough to go through thick woods. These big 3&6 seaters need a road cut for them to navigate…….

Dads got an older Polaris he treats like a dozer lol. Man they are tough and capable machines. Cant comment on the others , but im sure Kubota is good.

The Kawasaki Mule line is the most reliable utilitarian side by side in it's price range and class. The Pro MX or FXR would be the best choice for a two seat model. The 4010 is also a great choice but they are about 2-3 months out before supply is available again. The PRO FXT is a 4 seater but the back seat collapses so you have a larger bed and if for some reason you want to carry passengers you can fold the seat up and seat 4-6 people.

The Polaris Ranger will give you the most options on the used market and are pretty middle of the road reliability wise. Tons of models and price ranges to choose from and lots of dealers to choose from.

The Yamaha Viking is great and fairly reliable but ugly as sin.

The CanAm Defender I won't speak ill of but I would choose to stay away from CanAm products personally.

The Kubota RTV is essentially a heavy duty lawnmower or tractor and their primary purpose is working a farm or driving a fence line. They have very little to no fun properties about them.

The Honda Pioneer is also an option but I hear pretty hit or miss reviews on them from owners and previous owners.
