I was lucky enough to pick up this Smith & Wesson 10-5 in 38 Special with a 2-in barrel. The gun is a k frame gun and I have not owned a round but K frame, and secondly the stamping is colorized? The gentleman said he did not do it it came like that or at least to him and I was wondering what the Smith crowd has to say. Not to be spiteful but but just to gain some more knowledge

Not factory coloring of the stampings. You could, and maybe still can buy a "Gold Fill" kit from Brownell's. I used the gold kit on a nice Remington1100 trap and my Browning O/U Trap. If the base is cleaned well it looks good in the right situation. I did a quick check and couldn't find it on their page.

Like I said the previous owner said that was Factory heading on a few Smiths before LOL I don't remember that being an option but thank you for your input it looks like it's dated 1964 and it is a nice example unfortunately with some scratches on the other side

I found what I was looking for. This is what someone probably used to fill the logo and lettering. No longer available from Brownell's but can be had from Foster's.
