Smith Revolver (model 66) question

I am afraid it is too late for a refund. I guess i will start monitoring ebay, numrich and midway to see if I can find a replacement barrel.
 
I'd try. I have had Smith work on a 686-1 that was out of time. they have parts. they also still make model 66...-9? the barrel will be the same...seeing as this example is NOT pinned.

Yep, I'd try. Like you, I figured either that's a transition gun or the cylinder was replaced. I'd get that info from Smith as well. If it's just a barrel, that's an easy fix. But it does need to be professionally looked at
 
Pinned bbl and recessed cylinders were both dropped in 82. -1s were made till 86-88. So it's likely all as factory, other than a potentially bulged barrel...and go see a gunsmith before you spend any more money.

A forum can't solve your problem, a qualified smith might
