Snake ID unsure

Water snake I believe, but unsure what kind. Help?

To be sure you should pick it up and lick the head. If it tastes like peppermint, it's a copperhead

Wrong. You do that with tree frogs. You can only tell if snakes are venomous by the fang marks after it bites you.

OP report back with pics of your hand after it bites you. We'll let you know for sure then...

THANKS! Bands may be copperhead, thick on side-narrow on top, but that head baffles me.
