Wrong. You do that with tree frogs. You can only tell if snakes are venomous by the fang marks after it bites you.To be sure you should pick it up and lick the head. If it tastes like peppermint, it's a copperhead
THANKS! Bands may be copperhead, thick on side-narrow on top, but that head baffles me.I'd go with copperhead too based on the markings & what I can see of the head. Here's some decent info on how to tell them apart from other snakes
