I don't remember the last time I killed a snake.
I don't have young children and so far the cat has avoided getting bitten so I just back away slowly from the moccasins around here.

Give any snake a little room and it will clear out in time. For every one you see there's probably two more you don't anyway so it's not like you are clearing them off your property anyway.
