So my neighbor just shot at me....

georgia has a castle doctern if he was on your property and you felt threatened and he was shooting you were well with in your rights to turn his head into a canoe.

This....

All the other posts are a great idea but i am not very neighborly as far as being buddy buddy.. I moved to the boonies on this much land cause its the most I could afford and to have MY own land to do as I please.. Where I live is like a major crow passage every morning and I mean by the hundreds.. Me and 2 of my oldest were in the yard calling and shooting well the same neighbor starts yelling something at me while I am calling and at this point no shots had been fired I couldn't get them in range. but this guy said something twice and I couldn't understand him and he wouldn't talk anymore past that. So I think is mad that I can do as I please without harming anyone..

I can see how he may think I am throwing lead toward him simply because the way the sound travels here. my other neighbor shoots their handgun in their back yard... AIMED AT MY HOUSE. but I know there is a hill in between us and 5 acres of trees so I don't care his yard goes straight out his back door and straight up hill. I don't feel the need to run out my front door and start shooting at him. I think buddy is on somekinda redneck ego trip. He had to show me that his gun would shoot faster than my single shot i guess..

I don't feel bad or lesser of a man for calling the cops.. Like mentioned above their is a paper trail now and if something else did happen it is recorded that its not the first time..

I am a bit disturbed by the idea that a safe, reasonable gunowner would fire a gun as if he were a gorilla beating his chest in a alpha male display. This includes the gentleman in the op's post and the others in this thread who did so or advocated doing so. Of course maybe such a gunowner is not quite so safe or reasonable.
I would have to agree with the OP actions. I would not be excited about going onto someones property to discuss a problem who thought that firing "warning" shots was an acceptable method of communication.

Not to mention that you've already created an official record of a problem, establishing a "history of animosity". If you go onto his property with a gun, and something does go down... Even if you may have been completely justified in defending yourself, the bottom line is you took a gun onto his property and wound up killing him. You would be a guest of the GDOC for quite a while.

This X1000 ^^^^^ Plus what Sagan said....

I could not agree more with bryan. Anyone shooting their firearms to mark their territory, signal their anger, or "prove" how tough they are, first of all acting irresponsibly, and secondly are very poor representative of our sport. Just think how much mileage "antis" could get out of this thread.
:(:(:(

I agree with Bryan and Sagan.

If he steps onto your property and starts shooting at you, then you do what you need to keep your family safe. To me, that means getting everybody inside the house and grabbing your video camera.

I don't know about you guys, but I personally am not confident/arrogant enough to know or believe that I could hit him without being shot myself. My property or not, I would not start shooting back unless you KNOW that you have a clear shot and that you're not putting anyone else in danger.

Get him on video and let the authorities deal with him. Only "take matters into your own hands" if it is truly a do-or-die situation.

And remember, "if you don't have proof, it never happened".

Yeah I wasn't to sure about all the posts saying I should go confront him cause that puts me at his level of stupidity and I am the trespasser then and could be put in jail... The only way I would go on that goons property would be with the law standing there with me..

I just don't want this creep doing stuff to my property, vehicles, or most importantly my families well being just because he is uneducated about something...

I looked at my target line very close this morning and there is not a gun made that could get to his house other than a missile.. I would never shoot a firearm that could potentially hurt someone..

I am gonna just keep on doin what I am doin and when he unloads again I am gonna call the law again and press charges cause as far as I am concerned if you are shooting a firearm at someone with the intention of "gettin their attention" I would say that is flat out a terroristic threat.... :usa2:

Sounds like he feels in danger by your shooting in the backyard. Is there any way you could demonstrate to him that you are shooting safely on your own property and that his family is not in any danger because of it?
