So the AK-47 is pre-historic and outdated for battle?

How many of you have had an m4 style platform actually go down on you during a fire fight? Where are these claims of lack of reliability coming from? YouTube?

I have seen many comparisons between the AR (5.56) and the AK 47 (7.62), but until the last few days, I never considered the AK 74 (5.45).... Over the couple days, I looked at some data and reviews of the 5.45 and I am thinking... more accurate than the 7.62, but still not as accurate as the AR.... I love the AK platform and am thinking that I also include the AK 74 in my inventory....

And I love those 5.45 ammo prices.....

I have always been intrigued by the AK74 but, like you, have only been seriously interested for a couple weeks. It IS a cool round and inexpensive to shoot or own.

But first things first...Gotta have a VEPR 7.62x54r...:D Hope I didn't just open a can of worms.

When you get yours, send me one.... One at the top of my Want list.... I should be picking up a VEPR in 7.62 next week....

I can't understand why? They are cheap and fun to shoot and it is still a great platform. Even the SKS is a blast to shoot and relatively inexpensive. I have two SKS's because they are cheaper than AK's and just as reliable imo. The weight is a factor for some but personally I like weight on a rifle. AR's are fun to tinker with and the sky's the limit for accesorizing. They are also fun to shoot and a bit more accurate at a longer range. Still, I just don't see any real advantage with the AR at most ranges and the 7.62x39 has more stopping power.

Because an AK is like a chainsaw and I am more into precision shooting. Cost of ammo is nice, but if I can't shoot the gun 300 yards, I'm not really interested in it.

If I do, I won't be worried that a tablespoon of dirt will lock up my rifle. Maybe a 50lb bag of sand.

Bet you I can make your AK malfunction with a table spoon of sand.....without popping your top cover. Bet you can't make my AR malfunction with a table spoon of sand.....without popping the upper.

how about we each load a full magazine, shoot the weapon till empty, then immediately bury the rifle in dirt, un bury it and see who can fire the most?
