Me and a couple of buddies made a trip to Tellico Plains then across the Cherohala to Deals Gap a couple of weeks ago. Not many people on the dragon that Friday it was pretty nice. Me on my Versys 1000SE LT on the Dragon.View attachment 8913333
That’s a great ride. Have a few trips in the saddle running that course. I like to take the Nantahala route outta Deals Gap back and hit Wayah Rd and on into Dillard Ga and home

Wayah road is a very cool road. Had a buddy of mine from MI visiting last week and he wanted to go to Highlands via a scenic route. Had a nice ride going up GA 75 to GA17 to GA 255 to GA197 all the way to US76. Made the mistake of taking the Persimmon Road/Patterson Gap Road route to Dillard on my 600 LB + Versys 1000SE LT sport bagger. I normally do that on my adventure or dual sport bike but I did not anticipate Patterson Gap to be so bad. I have a hard head and so once we stared I said screw it and had to run the 8-10 miles of rutted, eroded switch backs in first and second gear while standing so I could see over the windscreen and carefully pick the lines that would avoid deep ruts or boulders. Cool road but not on that big heavy sport bagger with street tires.

We played a bit on Wayah road last summer:

Did a Saddle-Sore 1000 ride yesterday and got 1110 miles I think in by the 24 hour deadline, then I rode another 80 or 90 miles towards home before I got too tired to continue safely --I was starting to unexpectedly drift out of my lane.

So I got a motel even though at that point I was only 120 miles from home.

This afternoon I got home and parked the bike and saw that
I have 1320 new miles on it
since it last left my garage Wednesday morning!!

I also added four new states to the list of states I've ridden a motorcycle in:
Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas.

I did all four of those yesterday in between 1 PM and 8 PM Eastern time.

Sweet, good on you to stop. It ain't worth gettin hurt

I was pretty flexible on the direction / route.

I had four or five possible 1000 mile round-trip routes preplanned,
and I was going to pick among them at the last minute based on the weather forecast.

It worked out OK; I had cloudy weather but no rain during my actual thousand mile trip, but when I woke up in my motel room the next day it was raining and I had to ride home in the rain .
