Staccato Blemish… Help!

Hey fellow ODTs,

I picked up this Staccato C2 last week here on the trader. When I inspected it at the buy, i saw the mark on it, but it had been “colored in” and the frame around it did not show any discoloration.
Upon getting it home and cleaning it, the marker or what ever was used to hide the true blemish, came right off.
The result is the picture below.

Any ideas on what caused this?

Im looking for insight and advice on the best way to repair the frame. Im sure my wording is terrible and hopefully you all know what I am trying to ask.

You have two things to address.

1. Eliminate the blem, which depends a bit on how deep/large it its, and then
2. Refinishing the frame.

Given that the frame is aluminum, you will have fewer options than for steel, but it's not insurmountable.

Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black does a good job on aluminum, as Brownell's Oxpho Blue does on steel.

Bring it to my shop in TruPrep in Marietta. I can take a look at it, and advise on some courses of action. If I can touch it up with either of the two products above, I won't charge you anything.

Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black does a good job on aluminum, as Brownell's Oxpho Blue does on steel.......

Yup.....ditto....what he^ said.
I've used the stuff on several mild dings, and been very impressed with the product.
I think it'll fix that scratch better than you'd think.
As to what caused it, I'm thinking the previous owner hoped to buff out the scratch with steel wool or emory cloth, and left the larger, lighter spot.
