With all of the ammo shortages and what not as of late, has me considering steel cased 9mm ammo for my handguns. I haven't ever used any steel cased ammo in handguns. Just curious if any of yall out there have any experience with steel cased fodder (any one brand better than another). Any 1st hand insight would be appreciated. Thanks yall. Be safe and God bless.

Some possible issues with steel vs brass (expansion etc). But if you aren't reloading and it's cheap I say do it.

If it goes bangs and hits target I'm sure most of us don't really care if it's steel.

Years ago the steel had a coating that got gummy but whatever they use now seems much better.

I've heard that it was a bit dirtier than standard brass cased ammo, and that isn't a big deal to me. Just don't want to try it out if it is overly harsh on the mechanics of my gear. I do appreciate the info yall.

I have shot a metric poop ton of steel cased 556, 9mm, and 45acp....never had any problems.

People on the interwebs used to talk about how it would destroy your extractor but I have never had a problem or seen anyone have a problem because of steel case. Some of the 556 has a coating of some sort that can gum up the action and chamber after my rifle gets hot, but once I get home and clean its all good. Maybe a few thousand rounds in one afternoon might cause a sluggish jam...but I dont like AR's enough to shoot one that much.
