Back in the ole hood growing up, anyone with a soft top Jeep or any convertible left the doors unlocked. Easier to replace (at the time) a $300 stereo vs a $1,000 cut top.

Truth. Until someone figured out my jeep doors were worth something and took them as well. What are you gonna do....

Ultimately it’s a tool along with all the other tools I have, do I lay them out on the dash no, but I also don’t chain my sawzall down when I leave my vehicle.
