I've seen waves so extreme on the North shore of Oahu that they had to cancel a surfing competition that was in progress.
Spectators along the shore were getting slammed.

Me too! We rode over there from KMCAS. I’d guess it was 1979, maybe 1980? What year was it, if you recall? (And what the hell were you doing there?)
Those were 35 to 40 foot waves, if I recall correctly…..

Same here, 24 years ago for Christmas vacation. Was crazy, tons of huge lens cameras lining the beach. Back of my head made it on the news that night.

My dad did that stuff when he was younger he told us about.
Used to do competitions from Hawaii. Showed us all kinds of cool stuff from the 50’s - 60’s …. Old pics and stuff.
