I posted this in the Deer Hunting section, but I thought if it ain't against the rules I'd post it here too. It was great!

I took my 12yr old Granddaughter on her first hunt Thursday afternoon. This was my first time too. First time with a young person. I have two daughters that never had any interest in any of the shooting sports, so when the oldest of my five granddaughters, (Yes all girls) took an interest in shooting and hunting, well you can imagine! We took her .243 Ruger Compact that she handles great, and headed to the deer woods near the Alabama state line in Haralson Co. after school. We hunted from a shootin' shack located atop a hill on a pipeline. The first deer we saw was just before 6, a doe and a little one came out of the woods @ 173 yds. She put the scope on the doe, and said she was steady enough to make a shot, but wished the deer were closer. I told her that was good thinking, so we decided to just watch the deer as they walked away from us. Those first deer were still in sight when another deer stepped out @ 94 yds. She got the scope on the spike and said that she felt confident that she could make the shot. I asked are you sure of your shot? Yes I can make it. I told her to keep the crosshairs on the deer and I reached over and pushed the safety off for her, and said go for it. She asked again, can I shoot? I said yes ma'am, and the deer dropped in his tracks. You couldn't have chiseled the smile off either of us. I tell you, this is the best hunting trip I've ever been on! That 100lb devil horned spike might as well been a record B&C. There's nothing like it!

That is just too cool, I got a grin on my face just reading about it. And by the way, that's some good writing skills there Chuckdog, had me on the edge of my seat here at work. Ain't it neat how those little girls can drop em' where they stand! I've seen some huntin' shows on TV where it was a little girl hunting and I don't think I've seen one run after getting hit yet. You need to find out what her secret is so I don't have to go tracking for two hours anymore! LOL!:hail: Give the young lady a big hand from me if ya don't mind. :clap2:

That's an awesome story Chuckdog. Like Tazz, I had a grin on my face reading it. I hope to take my 7 yr old for the first time this year. I hope our 1st experience will be as cool as yours.

Thanks' guys, here's a little follow up.

She's excited about getting the meat ready to eat now. Guys, get with those daughters and granddaughters! Like I said in earlier post, my two girls couldn't care less about shooting at all, even though they were raised with it. We had a 100yd rifle range and a steel plate pistol range in our backyard. Man do I miss that place! Shooting and hunting being a constant at our house and it didn't mean a thing to them. This oldest granddaughter is of a different cut though, she loves to shoot. She got her first CZ 452 22lr when she was 8, she shoots my collapsible stock ARs' in 6.8 and 5.56 with skill, and just blew me away with how well she could shoot a custom Mark III Ruger 22 pistol starting at about age 10. We got her a .243 TC Encore for Christmas last year, but it just didn't fit her as well as I would have liked, so when I came across the stainless laminated Ruger Compact I asked if she would be interested in trying a different rifle, and of course she said, she would. It's a great fit. Ruger has improved the factory trigger with the LC6, it's @ 3lbs, which I think is perfect for her. I'm loading 95gr Noslers and 100gr Sierras in the 2850fps range using Varget powder with incredibly good accuracy, very light recoil, and deadly performance on game. Doing this has done more for me than her guys, take em' and see if shooting and hunting is something they may like, I guarantee, YOU"LL LOVE IT!

I'll be taking my son this week. I've been watching a spot for a while, but keeping my distance. I checked it out this past weekend and found five (5) scrapes and more horned trees than you can shake a stick at. I have the spot all set up and ready to use. I put up a blind after I washed the material with the UV counter stuff and sent blocking stuff. I found a blown over tree with a large stump and set up in the stump hole with the bottom of the stump to our rear. We will be over looking a hardwood valley. Placed the blind material in a half circle around the hole and put two fold up chairs with shooting sticks in there.

I feel like I'm 10yrs old again waiting for the morning at Disney Land!! BTW...he'll be using an AR pistol in 6.8 topped off with an ACOG, should be cool.
