"text me I am interested."

I pm a few times, then I like to talk on the phone, gives me a better idea who I'm dealing with.
But unless I know you or you have steller reputation I put the details in PM and I will not move an inch until the deal is confirmed in that PM.

I like all you guys...but sadly we might not be able to trade.

I send a pm and get information ...then if I get serious about buying something I send my number and ask the seller to text me. Or if they don't text - to call me at a certain time so I know it's them.

I have several reasons for this approach.

One: many times I want detailed information about the items condition, round count , etc. and it is a pain in the butt to type all that.

Two: call me old school but I want to talk to someone before I decide if I want to buy, sell or trade with them.
I can tell ALOT more about a person's demeanor on the phone than from a pm. Sometimes the phone call confirms the deal....sometimes it kills the deal. I won't deal with grouchy or rude people...life is too short and I don't have to...so I don't.

Three: my time is valuable too and I can get more done in a 5 min call than a 45 min pm party.

Also, you guys who complained about why someone would send you their number and ask for a text? I'll explain it to you...

The quickest way to start a phone conversation is for me to get the seller/buyer to text me their number with a suggested time to talk that is convenient for them. I ask them to text me because I DONT KNOW THEIR NUMBER. I also ask them to text me first so I can store their number...then when they call later I will know who is calling. I do not answer numbers not stored in my contacts list.

Frankly, those of you who are paranoid about giving out your phone number...that sends up a flag for me and makes nervous about dealing with you. You want me to meet to trust you enough for a firearm/cash transaction but you don't trust me with your phone number? In my experience those who are most suspicious of others are the ones least trustworthy themselves. Sure, I understand reluctance to give a number to a stranger but this is NOT Craigslist. That's why I'm here.

And finally, there is another simple reason I prefer to talk by phone before confirming a deal...it's fun.
I like talking to fellow gun folks and about firearms in general. If someone is busy it can be a brief conversation...or it can turn into a long conversation...who knows.

After speaking by phone I will generally, but not always, confirm all the details by pm just so there is no misunderstanding. But after speaking to some folks I don't feel the need to do that...I can tell they are good folks and I don't worry about it. Could that bite me in the ass one day? Sure...but that's ok...I like doing things based on someone's word more than the threat of the dreaded "neg".

Rant over. Carry on.
Said this so much better than I.

This is the way it supposed to be done, as per the rules. Isnt it? I thought thats why they are set out , so everyone will be on the same page....same way to do things.
Too complicated though, i guess.

You can negotiate anyway you want, but if the deal isn't confirmed in PMs we cannot uphold negative feedback if the deal goes south.

Right!! I dont see why its so hard for some to get this.

On top of that, i think its down right disrespectful to do negotiations/trades/biz/give out phone numbers/ make offers on an open thread....ALL that should be done in PRIVATE message.

Text first or PM first doesn't matter but there will be a PM with the necessary info before I get in the truck to drive anywhere.

I don't understand the data usage thing. If you have the data to get on ODT and look and reply to the thread then you have the data to send a PM.

Same type of people that put plugs in the wall outlets to keep the electricity from leaking out.

I don't like to give out my number, so it only comes out when a deal has been struck.

I'd use a 'burner'.

I will not strike a deal without speaking to person on the phone about the item. I need specifics most time and can not get this through PM or text. Same goes if I'm selling something.

I tried this once. Once. I nearly gave myself a heart attack trying to NOT laugh at the guy on the line. PM's are fine.
