The birth of my Fat Friend

That's a good looking knife! But this is what caused the birth of my fat friend....

Nice, that is great craftsmanship and O1 steel is my favorite ever since my wife got me a BHK.

Finally got a chance to put my Fat Friend to work. I couldn't find my narrow spade so the Fat Friend pulled double duty transplanting the collards into the garden.

Time for some chopping...

But first....a little shaving...obviously the knife and log were too big to truly make a feather stick but you get the idea.

And after a few quick whacks, branch was done.

Now for some batoning...

This was the only hiccup of the blade. It didn't baton very well. As thick as it is and with the relatively steep grind, I couldn't get it to drive into the log. Maybe with some smaller, less dense wood it would be fine. This is as deep as I could get it.

After an afternoon cutting the grass, working in the garden and testing out the knife, I snipped a few tomatoes and had a nice tomatoes and rye sandwich, all prepper with my Fat Friend.

All things considered I am very pleased with the knife. While I would prefer a slightly larger handle, it was adequate....keep in mind that I have monster mitts. The G10 scales held up well to mud and sweat and general muck, keeping sufficient traction throughout the day. Edge retention was great. Jimping was aggressive but not painful.

It's nearly identical in blade shape but the BK2 has a longer handle. Both excellent general purpose bush knives.
