The Forever Rifle: rOm's Scout Rifle

See I told y'all. And I traded a plain old Marlin 336 for it from another local member a few years ago.
And just like always...in a damn Kroger parking lot.
I dig the Enfield action but not as much as the Mauser action. I like how this one was already Bubba'd so that I don't take no blame. I'm okay with the plastic furniture since most of the original Ishapore furniture is in pretty poor condition these days. If I had my preference I would rather have the Navy Arms knockoff of the #5 Jungle Carbine that was in 308 instead of 303.

Did someone say .308 enfield??

Well...at least there was a reason for turning Mosins into Obrez pistols many decades ago. But in recent years I have seen some truly horrible **** done to mostly Mosins but other innocent surplus rifles as well. I personally own an Ishapore Enfield in 308 on a damn plastic stock with a cut down barrel and an 8 Ball knob for a bolt handle. BUT...I didn't do any of those mods. I just traded into it because I missed owning a 308 and it's kinda ghetto fabulous.

That’s a work of art and horror all in one. Like seriously it looks cool as hell but also scares me.

If you've been following me for any length of time, you'll know that traveling in retirement is something that myself and the wife are interested in doing. We spend about a month out of each year in the RV currently, seeing these United States of America and being armed in those states often comes with some caveats. I've been doing it now for seven years and I've decided to winnow down the collection. I'm not taking it with me on the road and I really don't need 11 AR's. So I've been playing the "if I could only have one" game for the past year or so and I've decided on Colonel Cooper's model, the Scout Rifle.

I went with a Ruger American in .308. This will be the third or fourth scout build I have done. And the first one to incorporate magazines. The others, while fun, were never really "needed" as I currently live in the free state of Georgia and there was nothing they did better than my big, black, scary rifles. As I move into states less freindly and free, my needs will change and a scout rifle should be 50 state friendly. This will be the rifle that someone will have to figure out what to do with when I die. I plan on selling or passing down all the rest. Look for some sales over the next ten or so years. Details to come as the work progresses but it's currently with cmshoot cmshoot who is doing some work on it for me. Here's what she looked like when I dropped her off.

Hey Romi, my grandparents spent the golden years of their lives traveling America in an Airstream. They would strike out in the summer and sometimes not come home until the fall. What a lovely life they lived then. They stopped in their early 80’s and both lived into their late 90s. You should start a thread and post pics of your travels in “America The Beautiful”, I for one would love that.

It's funny you posted this comment. I just watched a 9 Hole Reviews video which is a channel I really dig. Anyway it's their latest video and about Bubba Rifles. Turns out there are three levels of Bubba rifles. One is Bubba guns that can be unBunba'd without much expense or work. Then there is Level 2 Bubba which is of course more egregious in the mods. But the next level was called and I **** you negative "Cocaine Bubba". Well you can imagine how bad that can get.
They should be named Bubba, Drunk Bubba, and Cocaine Bubba.
With Meth Bubba added.

So this thread nudged me to finally set up the scout scope I'd bought. And....hate it, R95 is such a small/handy rifle, the 2-7x scout is ungainly as hell on it. Might have to find a 2x Burris pistol scope to put on it scout style, that should scale to the rifle a lot better.

I had a Marlin 336 that I put a 2x Leupold pistol scope in a scout set up on. Loved it. It's one of the few rifle I regret selling.
