The legend of Norinco & Polytech

There is a older gentleman I am now I am neighbors with and he brings his guns over for me to clean the barrel and keep it oiled since he doesn't have the necessary items to do it. He bought over the Norinco MAK 90 and I refinished the wood to a slightly more acceptable color and touched up the bad areas of surface rust. I think it turned out really nice. I was very skeptical of the accuracy of anything related to AK-47 but at 50 yards with open sights I kept the groups within one inch. That's really surprised me considering the stories you hear about accuracy of the AK-47. I've become great friends with this gentleman and he has promised me this rifle when he passes. We'll see how that goes but I would love to have it because it's a real nice example. The wood was this horrible puke yellow but it turned out really nice with the light Walnut stain I put on it. I had to use a sealer before I stained the stock but it turned out nice, I think.

Arsenal SLR-107FR chambered in 7.62x39. 5 round group at 50 yards shooting Wolff steel case 122 grain FMJ. Just a little under 1 inch.

While AKs can be more challenging for some because the short radius/open (vs aperture) sights, accuracy issues are mostly due to the eye & hands of the man behind the rifle.

Are direct impingement ARs more accurate, yep. That’s the idea behind direct impingement vs long stroke piston. Are AKs inaccurate, nope. But like most historical Fudd myths that survived until the internet era, they die hard.

Markets are wild... now the more I learn about shooting rifles, the more I like L1A1s with iron sights.

Just picked up an Arizona Response Systems Enfield L1A1 in new condition for $800. To think I could have four of those...for the price of a Chicom AKM....its a decision point, to quote GW Bush.
Well that was a steal! Bout like getting a pre-ban Norinco for $1200.

GOT ANYMORE OF THEM ARS L1A1s

Glad to see real time reports

Chapelle is one of my favorite comedians from way back when he had that show on Comedy Central, plus that's an amazing skit ^. All the politics going around, even I don't care/will never forget the laughs.

Look, I have some AKs and kit semi Galil ARMs, which are 5.56 AKs/Finnish RK-62 AK derivatives the IDF rolled up with a FAL para stock, a Mag off the stoner 63, and the rest RK62...other than minor improvements...

Frankly the AK is one of my favorites of all time. However the market has gotten way too hot on the Arsenal/Norinco/Russian AK side to merit the price, vs. other options, well on the shooter side. the investment side, another deal.

Galil ARM kit builds, paired with new IDF mags off their ACE Line, or reliable mags found otherwise, are pretty serious, in my minds eye on the AK market, perhaps the best buy right now. The Nicaraguan Galil Kits Century got called 'Golani' that went for $325 at gun shows are now going for...a bit more.

Although, If you are not a collector/sport Shooter looking at your collection vs. shooters, and needed to buy just one AK for defense/practice etc...

IMHO Get a Bulgarian/Arsenal in 7.62x39mm

Hell I sold one for $880 in 2006. Doh!
I know it doesn't compare at all but I sold a Norinco detachable mag SKS which I believe was the "D" model because it had the Monte Carlo stock instead of the retarded looking thumbhole stock for $350.00 after my daughter was born in late 07. Even then they went for twice that much on GunBroker.
