I haven't been chasing anything for quite a while.
Revisted Elijah Craig Small Batch the other night. Really enjoyed it
Might have to look for a Barrel Proof one

Picked this up in Charleston while I was working up there for a week. Haven't tried anything else from High West, but this sounded interesting.

First of all, liquor selection in general in Charleston was pretty poor, but that's the first time I've seen liquor stores that close at 7pm. Didn't realize until that trip that S.C. is an ABC state with ridiculous ABC rules. Guess I've taken for granted how good we have it here in that regard.

As for this particular bottle, interesting is the best adjective I can come up with. Can't really figure out the taste. It's good, but a little weird. Probably wouldn't buy it again, but not too disappointed with it either.

Most High West bottles are pretty middle of the road. Not bad but not amazing either .
People got crazy for their Midwinter Nights Dram, but they've raised their MSRP on it and it's not worth it unless you have FOMO. They also put out Prisoner's Share and again, overpriced but FOMO will get it moved.

HighWest is making a lot of missteps.
- They are like some other distilleries that sourced until they could get their own distillate aged and so far consumers are finding out that the sourced MGP whiskey was better than their own.
- There is a lot more competition now for port finished ryes.
- Raising prices with a sliding downturn for luxury items.
All the above just doesn't add up for them so I'm basically ignoring most of their stuff. If I find a banger single barrel that a store allows me to taste first, I might pick it up but that's about it.
