Unfortunately the mountain course has already claimed a rider this year. Dan Kneen was killed two days ago when he lost control at the Churchtown section of the course during the qualifying for the superbike race. Another rider, Steve Mercer, is in critical condition after colliding with a pace car and was airlifted off the island. Rest in peace Dan.

Not everyone makes it home in one piece from this race and some of the spectators have as big a balls as the riders.

Congratulations to Dean Harrison for setting a new lap record today! Completed all 37.7 miles of the course in 16:50 at an average speed of 134.43mph. Absolutely incredible!!!

Road racing isn't a game, its a sport. One of the few true sports left in the world. I agree though, everyone there knows and accepts the risk. You have to admire the courage of these guys.

I don't know why road racing isn't more popular here in the US. I can't understand why people will get so excited to watch the same cars painted in different colors running around an oval for two hours but have no interest in seeing riders flying past stone walls and telephone poles with just inches to spare.
