Read about two 18 year olds in Texas fighting the courts to lift the Texas legal age to obtain a carry permit.

I have never really given it much thought, and would lean towards the 21....but the truth of it is, we ask an 18 year old to fight in the war, learn weapons training.....so maybe there is a point.
You are required to take a course in Texas before applying for a CCW.

What do you all think?

An 8 year old can legally open carry a fully loaded ar in public, no reason not to let an 18 year oldADULT be able to protect himself with a handgun.

they should be allowed to carry IF they can pass a test showing they have the knowledge and responsibility to carry. If they are found carrying without the permit they should be banned to carry for life and all gun owning rights revoked.

I'm 20 now...and I can without a doubt say there are WAY to many 18 year old's that do not need that right... The few of us who are level headed enough to know how serious a responsibility it really is to carry are far and few between. Out of all the guys I know 18-20, some even close friends I only know of maybe 3 of us that I feel are of enough sound mind to carry responsibly, i think some of the others think its some kind of damn video game or they want to do it just to feel macho or something...But I do feel like I should be able to, but to say I can and they can't isn't right so for now I say 21.....that is hard for me to say to cause I'm only 20.....Also a huge majority of my friends are active military many have been overseas multiple times now, some have came back grown up like men, but most still act like stupid kids as soon as they are home on leave......I really don't know how I feel....

I do agree with my dad though, like he always says:
"If you are old enough to fight in a war you are old enough to buy pistols, drink, vote, rent a Dam car and everything. If they want to keep the drinking and pistol buying age at 21 then they should raise the enlist age requirement to 21 to!"

When he was growing up it was 18 for alcohol and you could buy rifles and pistols out of a sears catalog and have them mailed right to your house.

This!

Im only 20 but i wish i could purchase a pistol to practice shooting with so that once i do turn 21 i can get a carry permit. But as stated above, most people nowadays don't enough common sense to even use a gun responsibly.

There are some guys I know that think it is illegal for them to keep a pistol in their truck......and well for some of those guys I do not tell them other wise for other peoples safety and their own, cause I KNOW they would do something stupid if they ever got in a fight.

It really is sad that days of talking or at least a straight up fist fight seem to be over, nowadays everyone is always wanting to pull a knife or gun at the first sign of trouble.

The guys and girls( yes I do know a few girls of sound mind) that I know are of sound mind I let them know of all the laws and regulations that most people don't even know of...

I feel there are some valid points, I dont want some of my buddies to be carrying at 25, much less 18. But on the principal of the thing, legally I feel if your an adult at 18, then you should be given the rights of an adult

More government regulation, thats what we need.
