So I got hit by a kid and his insurance is totaling my Tundra. It has mainly body damage but the repair value exceeds 75%.

They are making a really great deal on the salvage price.

How do you know what to repair to get the inspector to pass for a salvage title? I don't want to spend all my windfall on my old truck.

If anyone has any stories/advice/recommendations, please PM me.

Thanks. Everyone have a safe weekend

Most insurance companies don't cover salvage vehicles like they do clean titles. It may not say salvage on the title ,but they go by history/vin reports.

My brother bought a civic for a deal, fixed it up and then got in a wreck. It did not have salvage stamped on the title. The history report showed a total vehicle loss/salvage at some point during its lifetime. The insurance company did not pay him for the loss. Most companies have policies that affect salvage differently so most people steer away from them

Get receipts for every part you use to fix the truck . Take pictures of the repair like a build thread . It helps . The state will want to inspect the truck and has inspection stations for salvage titles .

things have changed in Ga over the past few years regarding this

as stated above you want to document it,dont paint the vehicle
until it has been inspected. also, structural parts like core supports
and the like cant be straightened they have to be replaced,(in most cases)
which puts this out of the league of the average car owner

unless you are a licensed rebuilder or have a licensed rebuilder
do the work you will be stuck with a slavage title meaning if
you ever want to sell the yota dont expect much because
its pretty much a parts truck at that point

also you have to make sure it will pass emmisions even in
a non emmisions county and im not sure but i think inspectors
no longer come out to you to do the write off

its a huge pain in the butt that used to not be that way

some pics. basically body work:

Whichever way you go vit'll end up with a salvage title if the insurance company writes it off. I suspect the unibody structure has been compromised, hence the write off.

What is said for the most part is true...

Take ample pictures before repairs... don't paint till the work is inspected...

Everything on the car must work... everything horn taillights you name it....

Looks like a fairly easy repair. I know the if anything happens to it it is only worth 1/2 of the settlement if a salvage title. It takes a while to go thru the process. Google is your friend, search and find a shop will work with you on a salvage vehicle.
