It appears that Chicago police found the two thugs responsible for shooting Hadiya. Both men are under 21 so the gun was definitely not obtained legally. The confessed shooter is 18yr old Michael Ward. He and 20yr old Kenneth Williams are each being charged with one count of first-degree murder. Michael Ward confessed and stated that Hadiya was not the intended target. The shooting was in retaliation for an attack last year in which Ward was shot.
Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy stressed that "it wasn't tips from the community that led to the arrests, but rather relentless detective work." Nice to know the upstanding citizens, outraged buy this senseless shooting were so helpful in finding these two.
In general, the media has stayed away from the fact that the young men with Hadiya in the park had gang associations and were the intended target of these two thugs. The press just focuses on Hadiya and the senseless murder. Hadiya has become the Presidents poster child for stricter gun control when she should be used in an effort to curb gang violence instead.
